NASSCOM ON MARAN RESIGNATION

Mr. Dayanidhi Maran, who is reported to have resigned from the Union Cabinet on Sunday, has been a great champion and friend of the Indian IT sector. NASSCOM, on behalf of the Indian IT industry, would like to put on record its appreciation of the very positive and important role played by Mr. Maran in sustaining the growth of this industry over the last 3 years.

He has been instrumental in reinforcing India's position as the premier destination for IT outsourcing and in taking great interest in promoting the growth of the domestic market for IT. His efforts have resulted in India becoming an increasingly important location for the IT hardware industry also.

During his tenure, Mr. Maran has considerably strengthened the partnership between government and industry in promoting the IT sector in India. His role in bringing major and positive changes in the telecommunications sector have been of great significance to the IT software and services industry. It has also resulted in India becoming the fastest growing mobile telephony market in the world. We look forward to working as closely with Mr. Maran's successor as we did with him.
